The story goes that in the 1920’s, Amish women would bake a special dessert to put in the farmers lunch boxes. The men lucky enough to discover one of these tasty treats at lunchtime would shout “Whoopie!”

Many of you will have seen Whoopie Cakes in farmers’ markets and specialty stores, but Whoopie has just opened its first flagship store in Grey Lynn and launched an online shop!

For those yet to try these delights, Whoopie Cakes are made using two perfectly dome-shaped cakes, sandwiched together with a decadent creamy filling. They are made using fresh and natural ingredients, and will now all be baked and hand-decorated from the new Whoopie kitchen at 2A Hakanoa Street, Grey Lynn (off Richmond Road) by super-clever kiwis Lucy Stuart and Nick Maddren.

Flavours such as Red Velvet with Crème Cheese, Dark Chocolate & Hazelnut with Dark Chocolate Ganache and Banana, Walnut & Cardomom with Salted Caramel will entice even the most resistant sweet tooth. Whoopie Cakes make the perfect hand-held addition to any occasion: for work meetings; morning teas; birthdays; thank-yous; high tea; baby showers or weddings!

Move over cupcakes, move over cookies – we think the most tantalising hand-held sweet treat ever is a Whoopie. And really, there’s nothing else to say but “Whoopie!”
