Yumbox 4 compartment is a kid friendly bento style lunch box with a single leakproof lid. The pre-portioned illustrated tray guides you in packing a healthy lunch with the key food groups: fruit, vegetable, grains, protein & dairy and a small treat or dip well.
I’m liking
This box has a lovely, sleek look about it. When it’s closed, it seals well, which means that it’s good for left-overs etc. I love bento-box styled boxes as it means that you don’t have to have a bunch of small containers to keep track of and this box is a good example of this. I often use the little well for nuts and it’s been nice to not have to take any containers.
The Yumbox comes apart easily so that you can wash it and I found it easy enough to pop in the dishwasher.
Things that made me go hmmmm
I’m not wild on hinged boxes as a rule. However, the hinge seems robust on this box and I’ve been using it for a few weeks and it’s given me no problems.
The casing of this box also takes up quite a lot of room. I assume this has to do with the fact that it seals but it’s definitely snug inside. The box is also quite shallow and you can’t fit a whole piece of fruit in this box.
The conclusion
I’ve liked this box and it mostly works well for my lunch. It’s best suited for smaller lunches or snacks. I think this box would be great for a younger child or a child who doesn’t eat much at school (mine!!). I’ve also found it great for my own lunches.
Yumbox 4 compartment boxes are available from Munch and are $44.95 each.
