The Uniden baby monitor is a video monitor that can connect to your computer or TV and can even be Skyped. It has a colour monitor as well as night vision which you can see the wee one and judge for yourself if they are actually going to sleep or running riot in their cot.
I’m liking
This is the third monitor that we’ve used, the first being a walkie-talkie style, while the second was video monitor similar to this one. However, this is a superior product for a number of reasons.
It can be wall mounted – meaning the wee ones won’t knock it over thereby reducing your view to a closeup of the floor.
Both the camera and the monitor have internal batteries, so if you go to friends’ place for dinner you don’t have to take the chargers for when they go to bed there. The batteries aren’t good enough to go all night but will easily last a dinner party.
It has a night light that can be remotely activated, good for when you have to go in and attend to the wee one’s needs.
You can add three additional cameras, so if you have other kids that you need/want to be able to monitor then you can easily do so.
The monitor also allows you to record to SD card. I’m not sure how many videos you’d want to take of sleeping babies but it’s a nice feature.
Things that made me go hmmmm
Sometimes, during daytime sleeps, we go out into the garden. The monitor got partway into the garden before it lost signal, a little more range would be nice. That being said, it could easily be placed at the back door with the volume up high and you’d still be able to hear if the baby was awake.
The conclusion
I like this video monitor, it works well and allows you to watch the wee one in the cot. When they came to visit my parents loved watching our children sleeping on the monitor, I suspect remote grandparents will love the Skype functionality (which as far as I can tell is totally secure). I can also see myself using it to check in to see that the children aren’t playing up for the baby sitter (rather than sitting in the restaurant worrying that they’re running wild).
I personally like the ability to see what a child is doing in their bed, knowing whether you need to go in or not is gold. This Uniden monitor allows you to maximise your children’s sleep and therefore your own.
