I’ve used a number of GPS units while working away from home so I was interested in using the TomTom GPS when it arrived. Unfortunately it took a while before I went somewhere I didn’t know well enough so that a GPS would be useful.
The set up in the car was a little confusing at first but once I worked out how to attach it to the window so that it didn’t impede my view, everything went well. The maps are clear and the the visual and verbal instructions were good. My daughter liked the Dora voice. On one trip I’d looked at a map before leaving and as I was arriving in town I was sure the GPS was sending me in the wrong direction, I stopped to check a map only to discover that I was wrong and the GPS was right.
I’m liking
The maps were generally good and the instructions clear. When I ignored the recommended route it rapidly recalculated a new route. I particularly liked the estimated arrival time and trip duration.
Things that made me go hmmmm
On occasion an icon came up indicating a service station ahead, however on two occasions the service stations had closed down, one at least a year or two ago. At another time the indicated speed limit was wrong and as I went past a reminder sign I realised I was potentially up for a ticket. I hadn’t updated the maps so this may be an unfair criticism, neither point is a significant factor and didn’t cause me to go hmmmm too much, although I also had petrol still in the tank.
The conclusion
I liked it, I found it good to use and it got me to where I wanted to go. Quite happy to recommend the GPS unit.
