Edward Lear’s classic poem, The Owl and the Pussy-cat, beautifully illustrated by Charlotte Voake and introduced with a foreword by Julia Donaldson.
I’m liking
Voake’s pictures capture Lear’s poem in a sensitive and evocative way. She clearly loves this story and this is a lovely rendition of a very well known poem.
For me as an adult reader, the most interesting thing about this book was the introduction from Julia Donaldson. Donaldson gives some fascinating history about the poem and also reflects on her own relationship with it.
The conclusion
This a nice telling of a very familiar poem. It’s hard to add much to a poem this well known by this book has lovely production values and is a quality telling of this story.
The Owl and the Pussy-Cat is published by Penguin Random House NZ and has a RRP of $26.
