The Cat’s Pyjamas was a finalist in the NZ Post Book Awards 2012 – Children’s fiction. It’s a simply structured story about a cat that wears different pyjamas each day of the week and has exciting dreams, depending on what pyjamas are worn. Written and illustrated by Catherine Foreman.
I’m liking
This is a delicious book that looks at dreams and the imagination. Its clever use of repetition explores dreams of space, the ocean, road, sky, monsters and the jungle . “What a dream of space delight for the cat in the night.’
You know this a popular book when all three of your children choose it for their bedtime story on the same night. This beautifully structured book uses soothing rhyme with carefully selected words and humour that can be enjoyed by all.
The conclusion
This is a fun book that I never tire of reading. The words roll off the tongue and its soothing rhyme make it a perfect bedtime story.
