If you read my review of Sophie Gray’s last book – Feed the Family for $15 or Less– you will know that I was deeply disappointed that Gray didn’t include any baking recipes in the book. Well, this book certainly rectifies that! A whole book of delicious, vintage-Gray recipes! Yippee!! Fill the Tins is a baking book you’re going to need in your cupboard!
I’m liking
As we have come to expect from Sophie Gray, these recipes are stylish without being fussy. You’ll find something for special occasions as well as things to fill the kids’ lunch boxes. I was recently on the hunt for a low-sugar something for my kids and the digestive biscuit recipe has gone down a treat. It’s a great, basic recipe; the kids can help make them; and it’s easy to throw in additional ingredients to mix it up a bit.
You’ll find a mixture of old and new in the book – yes, Dana’s Chocolate Cake is there – and I’ve already used 3 or 4 of the recipes for various baking occasions. It also has lots of variations – including gluten and dairy free options and suggested variations.
The conclusion
This is Gray at her best – providing great recipes that families can actually use. Yah! I’m looking forward to exploring the book more!
