Short easy bike rides provides description of 52 rides throughout New Zealand suitable for taking younger less experienced riders on.
The book gives good coverage of rides throughout New Zealand and they are exactly what’s promised short and easy. But there is occasionally scope to increase the distance and difficulty of the rides if people so desire.
I’m liking
As a parent whose kids love riding it’s great to have this as a resource to locate rides that are within their abilities. We took the book away on holiday this summer with every intention of trying some of the rides listed. Ironically we didn’t manage to leave Avantidrome in Cambridge because the kids were loving the mountain bike track at the start of the ride. So the ride time was spent watching them go around in circles and then retiring to the café!
Things that made me go hmmmm
Silly I know, but I struggled to find the key that indicated the difference between the red and yellow tracks that are illustrated in the maps. But it made sense once I was shown the key.
The conclusion
Now that our youngest can ride a full bike I’m sure our summers will be spent riding the tracks listed in this book as well as discovering more that aren’t. I own many of the Kennett Brothers’ books and I’m sure that many adventures will be planned out of this book as I have done with their other books. New Zealand is undergoing a cycling revolution and this book will enable more people to take part.
