Seeker is a book by Arwen Elys Dayton about a young girl Quin who has trained most of her life to become a seeker. Yet, on the night that she becomes a Seeker she discovers the noble calling she’s dedicated her life to is a lie. And now that she’s taken her oath it’s too late to walk away.
I’m liking
I like new ideas and Seeker combines some science fiction ideas with fantasy. The seekers use athame that look like daggers to open portals that allow them to step through space, Yet there are various hints in the book to indicate that these tools rely on quantum physics to work their magic.
Things that made me go hmmmm
I couldn’t quite understand why the bad guys were bad. Given the power they had at their disposal they had little incentive to act as they did, yet they still acted evilly.
The conclusion
This is a good book, I enjoyed it and will wait eagerly for the sequel. I want to know where the Dreads came from and quite why they were expected to be impartial. Why was the Middle Dread allowed to behave in such an appalling manner? Where did the technology come from and why did the Old Dread step out of time for such long periods?
