Live theatre is treat at any age, and Seasons was a particularly nice introduction to the experience for my two kids, aged 2 ½ and going on 5. Beautifully choreographed and full of fun, colour, music and drama, the two of them sat entranced throughout the whole 45 minute show. Seasons charts the progression of a year – a year between holidays with cousins – by celebrating the delights that each season holds.
I’m liking
Much of the show was set to music and the songs were catchy with elements of Maori language and sign language woven in. The puppetry was fun and dialogue entertaining. When the show kicked off with the cast of three playing hide and seek I knew my kids would be hooked, this being a favourite pastime of theirs. There were several opportunities for audience interaction, and even my normally reserved daughter enjoyed calling out answers and directions.
Things that made me go hmmmm
The conclusion
A fun school holiday outing for younger kids (I’d go with Seasons suggestion of it suiting 2-7 year olds). My older child spent several hours this afternoon happily re-enacting scenes from the show. We will definitely be keeping our eyes out for their future productions.
