The Power of Focus sets out to be an action plan of doing good things and “how to hit your business, personal, and financial targets with absolute confidence and certainty”. It’s written by three authors who collaborated on the Chicken Soup for the Soul series – Jack Canfield, Mark Victor Hansen, and Les Hewit- and brings a balance of expertise and helpful steps.
I’m liking
The book sets out to be an action plan of removing barriers and getting on with things. Focus on strengths; change habits; and maximise growth (both personal and professional). A transition of small steps, covered throughout the book, encourage bigger changes. These are eleven strategies that start in the big picture (habits, focus, the big picture) and move to being day to day as they are done (consistence, action, living/working the dream). It is not theoretical and draws on people’s stories. It is also intended to be dipped into a chapter at a time, and revisited for reminders or guidance.
Things that made me go hmmmm
For a book that was all about Focus, it was complicated. It jumped from place to place and was hard to follow throughout. There were three different authors chimed in with experience, and, each chapter would have a mixture of case studies, diagrams, bulleted or numbered lists, visuals and action points scattered throughout. It needed a little more flow to pull it all together and make it come to life.
The conclusion
The book allows helpful steps. It’s honest and can be useful in stepping from wanting to do something, to having the tools to do so (and start now)
