The Phil & Teds Wriggle Wrapper is a simple contraption that serves three purposes. 1) sit a young baby in your lap quickly so your hands are free to do something else (i.e., eat at the table). 2) sit a larger baby safely on a chair while they eat at a table. 3) Strap a baby to an adult size bed for sleeping, and keep them safe from rolling.
I’m liking
The ease of the way in which the product works makes it handy. It is very similar to a Jolly Jumper harness – velcro two flaps inwards and clip for extra security, and pull a flap down that domes at the front. It is really easily extendable, so you can put it around your waist or someone elses (or different sizes of chair) simply by pulling or extending the strap.
I’m liking that we can eat dinner at the table with a small baby (probably from around 3 months is fine), and they are part of what is going on – yet completely safe while your hands are free. Although the Wriggle Wrapper’s purposes are narrow in the grand scheme of things, simply allowing us to all eat together and participate at the table without having to have the baby in a high chair or similar has been great. It is also extremely portable, folding down into a small bag, so it’s easy to take on the run. You then do not need to have a high chair where you are going, or you don’t need to use a dirty high chair if that is the other option available to you.
We haven’t purchased a high chair so can have a toddler sitting on a chair on a pillow using the Wriggle Wrapper. This has been useful for friends that have been visiting at meal times and has worked very well. It would thus be recommended to have at the grandparents house perhaps, if they do not have a high chair.
Things that made me go hmmmm
I don’t have any issues with the product when using it for its intended purpose, though we haven’t tried the bed extension so I cannot comment on that. It is worth noting that if the baby is strapped in your lap, you cannot get up from the chair without un-harnessing the baby from you. Consequently, attending to anything else (like reaching across the table for the mashed potatoes) is a little difficult, you will have to be polite and asked for things to be handed to you.
The conclusion
For what we wanted it for, I think the Wriggle Wrapper is great. If you’re looking for a way to include your baby at the dinner table, this is a really simple yet effective solution. On the occasions we have forgotten to take it with us, I have missed it!
