In A Perfect Chirpy Christmas, Flit imagines himself enjoying what her perceives as the perfect Christmas – a snowy, white version in the northern hemisphere. This story tells about Flit’s adventures pursuing his perfect Christmas, and why the best type of Christmas is actually not the imagined kind at all.
I’m liking
The illustrations by Patrick McDonald are seriously beautiful. The changing perspectives, gorgeous expressions and depth of colour used make this book something very special.
The story is very cute, and it is lovely having a Christmas book not featuring any man in a red suit – which I think makes it all the more heartwarming and enjoyable.
The conclusion
A Perfect Chirpy Christmas is a lovely southern-hemisphere Christmas book, celebrating what makes us unique at the festive time of year. I think the longing for a white Christmas is a common experience, so this book is really easy to relate to. Though the pictures will appeal to a wide range of ages, the story would have most appeal to ages 4-6+ – it’s full of alliteration and dialogue, and flows well.
This would also make the Perfect Chirpy Gift for friends or family who live overseas that you would like to lure home!
Published by Random House, this book retails for under $20. It’s definitely worth it!
