Nice, wooden furniture for small people is a great investment, I think. And setting up a zone for little ones to be busy at, which is safe and where there is no fall risk, is great for one’s peace of mind. So this five piece set from Kiwi company Mocka really ticks the boxes in terms of usefulness for me! It has a 60cm round table, two stools and two chairs with backs.

I’m liking

These quality-made products come flat packed but with minimal packaging, making them very environmentally friendly. The set was quick to put together – my husband completed it all within an hour or so – and came with everything you needed to be able to assemble without hassle.

The set is natural Birchwood in colour (whether it is in substance I’m not sure?) which will look a treat in any home. I hope it wears well. I will be sad if the first time my son decides his markers should be trialled on its beautiful surface, they aren’t easily removed. I don’t want to suggest he tries it out just for the purposes of this review!

The sturdy, stackable chairs with backs are comfortable enough even for my heavily-pregnant self to sit at (though I no longer would qualify at their recommended 70kg weight limit!). I love having these table and chairs in our lounge so that when we have more relaxed dinners, small people can sit and keep their food in a reasonably contained area while we don’t all have to be in the dining room.

The conclusion

There are few disadvantages to a well designed, attractive set such as this. It is clearly of far superior quality to that which you might buy in a number of chain stores. This is the sort of set that you could probably hand down to your grandchildren eventually, and it won’t really date or get too damaged through a lot of use. It retails at $149, and I would suggest that it would be very worthwhile next time someone asks you what to buy your toddler or preschooler for a substantial gift, that you keep this in mind.
