I’m liking

Sturdy fabric on the outside, my bag is pretty old now, but besides a bit of staining on the front where bubs likes to chew on it, it looks like it could just be a few months old. It lies flat and doesn’t get twisted up. It is made from all natural fibres.

Opens pretty flat for drying or nappy changes, which is handy as the ones that don’t I find take longer to dry because they’re doubled up or can flip back down when you changing the nappy! It also makes it really easy to get on and off.

Domes on the arms which mean little ones can wear then without the bag riding up around their neck.

Merino fabric next to baby’s skin

The holes in the bag are great as you don’t need to take the baby out of the bag to put them in the carseat or pram.

Things that make me go hmmm:

I have the winter weight one, and I felt like he wasn’t warm enough just with the sack, I used a blanket too in winter, even though our thermostat was set at 18 degrees. I think it’s great now at night in summer.

It only has one layer of merino. The outer layer and the inner wadding are cotton. The only merino bit is the layer next to baby.

I don’t think one is enough! They take a while to dry because the layers are so thick, so you will need at least two to have one to use when the other is being washed or dried.

Extra for experts:

There’s not much I don’t like about this sack, although I have a few ideas for future designs!

I’d like to see more domes on the arms to suit a bigger range of sizes, I had to stop using the domes because they got too tight around bub’s arms but it was still a bit too big for him, he’d always end up with the shoulder part up around his ears.

My baby had reflux and so regularly spilled up on the bib part, I would love to get one with a detachable bib (and maybe an extra bib could come with it) so I could just take that bit off for washing.

I’d love a design with no white on it, as it stains so much more than other colours.

I’d like a tab at the top of the zip, so I don’t accidentally undo it all the way during those middle of the night changes.

I found I needed to have the straps in the carseat looser when bubs was wearing the sack as it is so bulky. You will need to check that the fit is still safe once they’re in. I suggest doing a trial run when they’re awake so you don’t wake a sleeping baby messing around getting the straps right.

Conclusion

I love this sleep sack! I think it looks really cute on and it’s great not worrying about bubs kicking his blankets off. I think it’s a bit pricey, it’s not made in New Zealand and only has one layer of merino, so seems expensive when those factors are taken into consideration. I really like the durability of the cotton outer layer, and would definitely buy more of these. I would recommend it to anyone looking for a great quality, warm and durable sleeping bag for their baby.

  1. These have been so wonderful for our boys.  My oldest son used to wake up all the time due to kicking off blankets until I discovered these!  I use the winter weight one all year round in Auckland, but used a little blanket over the top during winter as well.
