I am just an average basic cook. I opened this book and thought, well – please! I do know how to boil, poach, fry and scramble eggs.
I decided to give Meals for 1 or 2 a chance and set myself a challenge to see if there was any thing that would help me improve my skills.
I’m liking
I tried out recipes for Butter Chicken, Green Chicken Curry, and the old standby, Macaroni Cheese.
The mac and cheese was no surprise- a good basic recipe that is always hard to fault.
We love Butter Chicken and Green Chicken Curry and normally I would buy a jar of flavour mix because I’m not into spending the time messing around making my own mixes. These two recipes were so easy to make and so tasty, they are now my go to recipes when I want to make these dishes. Thank you Alison and Simon for showing me that there are simple ways to do it yourself. No more jars of mix in my shopping list.
Things that made me go hmmmm
Well, this book is really for the home leavers and newly single, and there are no complicated recipes to scare anyone off.
This book isn’t designed for someone well versed in cookery, although as I have said, there are some good basic recipes that many of us can use to improve our skills.
The conclusion
If you know someone who needs a bit of basic help in the kitchen, buy it for them.
Each recipe includes tips on how to store or enhance the recipe.
The recipes are healthy and wholesome, the photos show what the end result should look like when simply prepared without the bells and whistles, which can put a person off if their end result isn’t the same as the photo.
