Is your 2-6 year old learning their months? Do you want them to learn them by seasons we experience in New Zealand? Then you might find this little title helpful. The Little Kiwi Book of Months has been produced to help kiwi kids get the hang of January-December in a fun and easy rhyming style.
I’m liking
This is a unique title. The author wrote and produced it due to a gap in the market for books that kiwi kids could identify with along these lines:
‘Matariki is Maori New Year,
it begins in JUNE.
Plant new crops and see seven stars
rise above the moon.’
Colourful pictures of everyday family scenes accompany the text, which is easy to pick up due to the rhymes and repeated structure. I also like that a variety of cultures are represented by the photographs.
Things that made me go hmmmm
A few of the stanzas of rhyme don’t flow quite as well as the others.
The conclusion
This little inexpensive title (Price: NZ$8.99 + postage and packaging) is available from franceschan.net and is a helpful addition to the bookshelves of many kiwi toddlers, preschoolers and primary school children.
