Capital E presents NZ’S biggest arts festival for children from the 11 – 23 MARCH 2013. My 4 year old grand-daughter and I were lucky enough to see Like it or Loop it. In this show award winning Australian instrumentalist Adam Page takes you on an whirlwind school day making music from everything that he can lay his fingers on. Using live recording and looping on stage Page cleverly creates amazing rap music that stirs his young audience into participating.
I’m liking
The whole show is only around 45 minutes long and split into short sections, each one a different part of the day so no time for your child to get bored. Page engages the young audience using an amazing range of instruments to create sound — everything from a saxophone to a zucchini that he made into a flute with the help of a drill. The audience loved hearing rap songs using their names.
Things that made me go hmmmm
The show is very clever and entertaining but has an age rating from 4 – 14 and whilst my grand-daughter enjoyed most of the show and even called out answers to the questions, some of the content was a little advanced for her, it’s probably best suited to school age kids (and adults).
The conclusion
This show is very interactive and entertaining with jokes, music and rap songs made up on the spot, the school age children in the audience were totally engaged and obviously enjoyed the show with very enthusiastic applause at the end.
