From the book’s blurb: One rainy afternoon, Hadleigh spies a rainbow. He heads off outside to see if he can catch it. No matter how hard he tries, it always seems to be out of reach. He asks his mum to come and help him. But, no matter how many times or how high they jump, neither of them can catch it. Hadleigh asks other people to help. Then Dad comes up with an amazing idea. Will it work? Will they catch the rainbow?
I’m liking
Let’s Catch that Rainbow is a very sweet book, my boy loves rainbows, so he was really excited to see it. It was nice having a book about every day things that he could relate to, that then turn more exciting!
The illustrations are lovely and it’s a well set out book.
Things that made me go hmmmm
The back story to this book is that it’s based on a story she used to tell to her boy on the way to kindy, and it reads like that kind of story. Some of the writing seemed a bit stilted to the adults reading it, but the kids didn’t seem to mind.
It seems like it is aimed at young preschoolers, but there is a lot of text. I think some kids would find it a bit wordy.
The conclusion
This would be a nice book for young preschoolers who like stories about familiar things that turn a bit wacky.
