Learn to Play Ukulele is a ringbound, sturdy comprehensive guide to the ukulele is an excellent companion for those seeking to learn this popular instrument.
I’m liking
Author, Phil Capone, has put together a fantastic little book that has all you need to know about learning how to play the ukulele. I like that it covers the basics for those new to the instrument, while also providing advanced lessons aimed at improving the playing of those who aspire to join a Ukulele Orchestra. All sections of the book are clear and easy to read – with each lesson being explained through concise text, chord graphics, and helpful photos. The accompanying CD is an added bonus that makes playing the lesson songs easier for those of us who don’t follow musical notation!
Things that made me go hmmmm
The book assumes a fairly high level of musical ability (especially for the lesson songs). People who have the ability to play by ear may be tempted to short-cut some of the more complex lesson songs.
The conclusion
Overall, this is a great book. Its small size makes it a handy, portable chord library and reference tool. It would make a great gift for the ukulele enthusiast, young and/or old, in your whanau.
