Recipes From New Zealand’s Favourite ‘Underground’ Kitchen. It all started by word of mouth among friends, and now everyone is talking about this hip home-cook and her thriving underground business. The talented foodie behind Jess’ Underground Kitchen, Jess Daniell, makes delicious home-cooked meals for Kiwis all over Auckland who pick them up from ‘secret’ locations. Now the secret is out, as Jess shares her most loved recipes in this, her very first cookbook. With Paleo and gluten free variations, and all easily achievable, Jess’s food is fresh, healthy, flavour-packed and easy to prepare.
I’m liking
Jess’s recipes are tasty and accessible. I love the way that this book is organised into seasons, with a focus on food that is around in each season. There’s a nice range of recipes for all meals and I’ve enjoyed trying some of the preserving recipes this autumn.
I also enjoyed reading a bit about how the kitchen developed and it’s always cool to hear about how something really awesome can grow.
There are also many paleo recipes for those who are interested and Jess gives variations for various diets.
The conclusion
A lovely book. It’s nicely illustrated with photos of both Jess and the food and there is something very ‘do-able’ about the recipes.
