From her hideaway in a museum basement comes Ivy, a cleaning lady with a difference. Her humble set of wheels may look like a cleaning cart, but just wait and see where – and when! – that time-travelling trolley is about to take you. Join our heroine of hygiene as she takes you on a whirlwind trip through history.

Having spent the last year travelling around New Zealand, Ivy Saviour of the Dinosaur is back to thrill Wellington audiences. Written by and starring Jennifer Martin, Ivy is as engaging and endearing as ever.

I’m liking

This show is the very best kind of children’s theatre. It’s funny at times, poignant at times, and will keep you on the edge of your seat. Martin is thorough convincing as Ivy and Nick Dunbar also adds some great moments.

The highlight for my daughter was when the cleaning cart turned into a space rocket; fantastic effects that my daughter is still talking about.

The show also takes you through a bit of a rollick through history and although my daughter was a bit young for many of the references, she still enjoyed the visual aspects of each stop.

The conclusion

The perfect holiday show. Although the historical references are perhaps best for older children – say 7-10 year olds – the visual and comedic elements meant that it also has plenty of appeal for younger children. We see quite a lot of children’s theatre and I’d rate this as one of the best. Brillant paced perfectly pitched and good fun for all! If you’re thinking of going to the movies these holidays, try Ivy instead.
