The Improvisers is a bit of an institution in Wellington… fun improvised theatre for kids (and big people as well!) Halloweenies presents the least scary cast of spooky misfits you are ever likely to see on stage. No screams here, just big laughs!
I’m liking
We’ve been to a couple of Improvisers shows now and this has been my favourite so far! This show featured a live musical accompaniment on double bass and guitar (Matiu Whiting and Kameron Kafai) as well as the usual mad cap collection of improvised characters. My daughter is still humming the song from the show: “Just because we’re different, doesn’t mean we’re scary, we are friendly monsters, though we’re big and hairy”
A particular star of this show was Greg Ellis as the monster. He was utterly engaging for the small people with me. He was ably supported by Ian Harcourt as little Timmy and the monster catcher; and Thom McGrath as mother, werewolf, hairdresser and acting teacher (yes, really!).
The conclusion
Halloweenies included all of the features that makes children’s / improved theatre great – lots of interaction, crazy escapades and a jolly good laugh. If you’re looking for a fun way to fill in a morning, I highly recommend a trip to Halloweenies.
