Sometimes I have the good fortune to review some really cool books – and they are not necessarily ones that I would have chosen. This is one of those. A Good Baking Day is a fantastic collection of 500 recipes from the good women of Rural Woman of New Zealand.
I’m liking
The Rural Women of this book know their baking. It seems to me that they are used to baking no-fuss recipes to feed hungry mouths and the book reflects this. If you can think of a well-known baking treat, it’s probably in here. Chocolate cakes, banana cakes, apricot balls, peanut butter biscuits, loaves… etc etc etc! Several times over the last few weeks, I have though I’d like to make a particular something and lo! The Rural Women have a recipe for it!
Things that made me go hmmmm
As this book is a collection of recipes from members around New Zealand, it doesn’t have pictures for lots of the recipes. If you like to drool over delicious looking images, you might be a bit disappointed by this book. However, don’t let that keep you from exploring – this book has a recipe for every occasion and you’re sure to find yourself inspired by something.
The conclusion
A really good, solid baking book. If you regularly bake for kids or other family members, you’re sure to find something in here that will extend your repertoire. Thank Rural Women!
