First Prayers with Jesus takes words of Jesus as an introduction and then sets the concepts Jesus taught about in a cute poetic format, enabling under fives to pray along with parents in a way that makes the prayers easy to commit to memory. The book is hard cover with soft padding behind it.

The book is a great size for small children to hold and read. The illustrations are lovely, lively and work well with the text.
I really like that each prayer is based directly on a passage of scripture. They are well written and the rhymes are not awkward at all. They would be quickly able to be recited by children who have been read the book a few times.
The conclusion
This book has the potential to become a great part of a bedtime routine for Christian families looking to share time together with small children. It would be easy to build a simple family devotional around the text focussed on in any two page spread, and the contents pages lists all of the relevant scripture passages that appear in the book. The book is clear and uncompromising about the teachings of Jesus in an easy to follow way.
