A hard cover, soft padded book, First Prayers at Bedtime by Sophie Piper takes traditional prayers and sayings and puts them to bright, charming illustrations. Suitable for under fives, this book would make a nice gift.
I’m liking
The book is a lovely size for children to hold and read. The illustrations include pictures of a lot of animals, and they are very cute – and can provide hours of enjoyment of the parent pointing them out to the child or having the child name what they see in the picture. The sayings are relatively short and mostly easily roll of the tongue – they would be easily recited by the child.
Things that made me go hmmmm
These are largely traditional prayers and sayings, so are not necessarily Biblical in their content.
The conclusion
If you are looking for a cute book with little rhymes and sayings that are nice to say with your children before bed, then at $12.99 this book may work well for your family. If you are looking for something to use in a Christian household where authenticity to what the Bible teaches is important, I would recommend the other title in this series – ‘First Prayers With Jesus‘.
