Ecobots are a 100% cotton pre-fold nappy. A rectangular cotton nappy is folded in three and placed on top of a separate cover. Baby is placed on the cotton nappy and the cover is secured around baby with velcro.
I’m liking
I like the fact that the cover can be reused if it isn’t soiled. Anything that cuts down on washing has to be good!
The double leg gusset for leak prevention is another really great feature. I haven’t experienced any leaks despite some challenging tests!
I also like the fact that Ecobots clearly take their environmental responsibilities seriously. Packaging, for example, is kept to a minimum and unbleached nappies are available.
Things that made me go hmmmm
Because the prefold cotton nappy isn’t contained within a pocket, the wet nappy sits directly next to baby’s skin. For that reason, I tend to change the nappy more regularly than I would change a pocket nappy with an inner lining that wicks moisture away from baby.
At nappy change time, there is a bit of fiddling and positioning of baby, prefold nappy, and cover to get everything lined up together. This might be a bit tricky if your baby is particularly wriggly.
My 15 month old is also quite fascinated by the velcro fastening. I have to get her pants on quick to stop her trying to undo the velcro. I understand, however, that there is a lockable cover available to deal with such inquisitive types.
The conclusion
Ecobots nappies are economically priced and would be a good choice for parents who prefer a prefold system.
