Cross My Heart is a great read by a great author. There are two unrelated stories woven together that are both edgy and keep you wondering how they will relate to each other.
I’m liking
The characters fit together and weave their lives as families and work interact around life. House renovations and unhappy children pound out ‘notice me’, while the villains scream ‘I’m here’.
Things that made me go hmmmm
Normally one would regard the ending of a book as sacrosanct when recommending it to someone. But this book ends in the middle of the action – not to leave the ending to your imagination – but to make you buy the next book. I found this frustrating and disappointing. When I read a book I like a complete story.
The conclusion
If you like to read James Patterson and enjoy The Alex Cross series, you will enjoy this story. The pace is good and it keeps you guessing. When the first case is solved, it carries on with the second, more personal case – and this is the one that is left unsolved and frustratingly up in the air.
