Capital E must be the best place in New Zealand to see kids’ theatre and Around the World and Buck Again is another great show from this excellent theatre!
Through charming sing-along songs French poodle Fifi, British bulldog Horatio, Mexican chihuahua Dolores Del Mar and Kiwi sheepdog Buck will escape the quarantine kennels by dancing you a journey to their homelands with tales of French cuisine, grand English manors, and the love of a Kiwi farm. With such entertaining canines for company, no wonder Buck doesn’t smell a rat!
I’m liking
This show is just great for the younger set. It’s around 45 minutes long so won’t challenge your kids’ attention spans too much and there is plenty to keep everyone entertained! Each of the dogs is strongly characterised and the costumes and set are simple but effective.
There are some nice jokes for the grown ups and plenty of slap-stick to entertain the small people. My almost-four-year-old daughter was so excited about it that I could hardly keep her in her seat – she kept jumping up with excitement!
My daughter particularly liked the songs which are catchy and energetic. They’re also well-timed throughout the show and keep the momentum high.
The conclusion
A great school holiday offering from Capital E. It’s funny and engaging and two days later, my daughter is still talking about it.
PS The notes for this show say that you’re encouraged to dress up as your favourite dog when you go to the show. Fun!
