Rich in minerals such as phosphorus and potassium, and containing vitamins A, C and folate, bananas are a delicious, easy and portable first food for your baby.

Serving banana to your baby is as simple as choosing a fairly ripe one to keep lumps to a minimum, peeling it, mashing it with a fork and serving it to your baby on a small spoon.

Once your baby is comfortable with this, banana is very easily mashed into other vegetables and fruit.  Always try a food by itself first, so it is clear if your baby presents with any allergies what food triggered the reaction.

Easy foods to mash banana into include fresh, washed soft berries or steamed carrot, pumpkin or kumara.
