Refreshingly honest, openly frank and candidly blunt, this book has been written by a mother for other mothers. It oozes with warm fuzzies, it reeks of mumsy terms, it exudes realism in every paragraph and it is refreshing in its guiltless honesty. Modern first-time mothers are often alone – devoid of once traditional motherhood knowledge and practical support. Often previously self-confident women find themselves inconceivably isolated, hopelessy fumbling over everday mothering tasks, enduring torturous levels of sleep deprivation, feeling desperately despondent and physiologically aching and leaking everywhere. This book provides supportive, caring advice – one Mum to another – while at the same time serving as an encyclopaedic medical reference regarding the mother and baby. Checked thoroughly by medical professionals, this book is a unique blend, like having access to a kind and gentle GP as well as to all the gems of wisdom of years of mothers’ coffee groups. This new title clearly and compassionately explains the ups as well as the downs which are perfectly normal aspects of giving birth and mothering in today’s society.

  1. Becoming a mother changes your life. All mums know the truth of that
statement, but it usually doesn’t sink in until a couple of weeks after
you get home from hospital. I found this a great book to read as a
    first time mum.

  2. Just like most of the other mums who have reviewed this book i thought
it was to much of a read, but it so so isnt, its really interesting,
really open and honest and funny, and easy to read in steps.

If you were to buy one book while pregnant, this should be it.

  3. I originally looked at this book and thought it appeared to be too much
reading. However, once I picked it up I pretty much read the whole book
    over a couple of days.

The information and advice is easy to
read, sensilble and up to date. I have found that most problems that my
baby has had have been covered really well in this book.

    I would
thoroughly recommend it. to all new Mums – it is by far the best
parenting book I have read. Originally I borrowed a copy from the
library but have ended up going out and purchasing my own copy.

  4. I was loaned this book for my first pregnancy and loved that it really
talked about things in the perspective of todays modern world ie.e not
old fashioned. Very informative, honest and would recommend to other
    first time mums to be.

this is one of the best books i have picked up during my pregnancy – i
LOVED the fact that nothing is glossed over. being a first time mum
there are so many things that happen and you go ‘i wish someone had told
me about that….’ and kathy’s book includes a lot of them. it also
had me laughing out loud at some points. i would definately suggest to
any other first time mum’s to get their hands on this book too!

  6. I also thought this book looked huge and wordy but it isn’t. I have been
constantly referring to it throughout the last seven months of my
little boys life. I appreciate Kathy Fray’s honest ideas and pointers.
I also thought her sections on birth and such was very useful and practical.

  7. I am a first time mum and find this book a god sent. I was given it when
I was pregnant and my initial thought of it was, I wasn’t going to read
it as it looks too wordy for my liking. Boy, was I ever wrong. This
book gives you information on the different stages of pregnancy, labour
and right through to after your baby is born. My son is nearly eight
months now and I still find myself referring to it. Highly recommended!
