Banana Pops have become the new after school treat at our place. One part healthy, one part decadent, our kids just love ’em. Here’s our super-simple Banana Pops recipe.
Monday’s used to be our after school ice cream day treat at the local Dairy. But I’ve recently discovered if you freeze a few bananas before covering them in chocolate, it makes a delicious frozen treat. My children even ask for these over icecream!
Banana Pop’s are super-quick and easy to make and, as you can see, they look great too! Something fun and different for the kids (big or little kids that is) to make. And, of course, they make the perfect party treat for your next birthday party.
If you want to keep this treat relatively healthy, try and source the best-quality dark chocolate you can find.
Good quality dark chocolate will have plenty of cocoa solids in it, and therefore less sugar. And although chocolate does contain a small amount of caffeine, it’s fairly healthy when compared to other highly processed kid’s snacks.
Of course, you can’t consider hundreds and thousands in any way healthy. They are basically just sugar!
Believe it or not, you can now source sugar-free sprinkles (what’s the point?). Or, if you want to make these more as a snack, rather than a sweet treat, you could try and make your own vegan coconut sprinkles. We’ve made these before, and they work really well, and would taste great with the banana.
Another option, that we haven’t tried yet is to roll the banana pops in different toppings.
We think a mixed chopped nut version would be great. A mixture of peanuts, walnuts and pecan nuts finely chopped would be really crunchy and delicious. You could also try dried fruit, or dried fruit powders. The same stuff we use to roll our bliss balls in.

Ingredients
- 2 Bananas
- 125 g Dark Chocolate or milk chocolate if you perfer
- Hundreds and thousands (sprinkles)
- 4 Iceblock sticks
Instructions

Simply cut the bananas in half and slide in an ice-block stick. If you want to make frozen banana pops, simply freeze the bananas over night.

To melt the chocolate, heat a small amount of water in a pot and place a heat resistant bowl over the pot. Make sure not to have the bowl touching the water. Pop the chocolate into the bowl and stir slowly. Remove as soon as the chocolate has melted.

Dip the top of each banana into the melted chocolate. I used dark chocolate, but depending on what your children like, you could use milk or white chocolate instead. If your bananas are frozen the chocolate will set quite quick, and quite hard, so you need to work quickly.

Roll the chocolate dipped bananas in a bowl of hundreds and thousands....DONE!!!
Recipe Notes
You can also cover the bananas in a range of different things. You could try chopped nuts, dried strawberries or raspberries, or dried fruit powders.
