Aussie company Jump in Puddles Productions has released a new fun app for under 5s. Three clues are given for the child to work out ‘who’s that hiding behind the big blue box?’ before the answer is revealed to be one of a number of common farm sights.
I’m liking
The words are spoken clearly and at a good pace (albeit in a strong Aussie accent 😉 )which makes this a great learning tool for animals and other things that feature on farms. Users are rewarded for their guesses with a reasonably quick answer which means their attention stays on the game. Whatever is hiding behind the big blue box is repeated quite often, so small people can feel good about getting an answer right from memory even if it is a wee bit tricky or a new concept, like the scarecrow was for my 2 year old. Also, there is a great puzzle at the end of the game which my toddler has really enjoyed – you can choose how many pieces it is broken up to, and when the piece is dropped somewhere en route it doesn’t zoom off from the screen (lots of puzzles seem to do that which is infuriating for a toddler who is trying very hard).
Things that made me go hmmmm
My little guy gets very enthusiastic, and pressing something once just doesn’t seem enough to him. Several presses and the clues will zoom by… meaning sometimes the clue or the answer are gone in a flash rather than enjoyed to their potential.
The conclusion
This is a simple an inexpensive wee app that will provide you with a lovely opportunity to sit with your small person and have some fun guessing who is behind the big blue box. The colours are lovely and bright, the animations are adorable and it’s all round a well-designed app that is worthwhile.
