Michael Van de Elzen runs a well known TV show with his food truck. He packs up his truck with ideas- often creative and pushing boundaries- and takes himself to events around the country. The Food Truck Cookbook: Number 2 is the second cookbook and captures many of the recipes from the third series. Always interesting, his approach is both fun and healthy.
I’m liking
His writing seems exactly as you hear him on TV- you can hear the enthusiasm for what he does. The food is loosely grouped into themes by places; there’s Vietnamese, Argentinian, Japanese and a long list of others.
The recipes are made fun and not complicated. There are some that wouldn’t be hard to do in less than twenty minutes. They are creative and healthy.
They have the clear bonus of being appealing including a hit with kids- many can be carefully held and eaten by hand, or come on sticks. They’ve been created with the idea of being takeaway foods at events (fairs, concerts, sports events).
Things that made me go hmmmm
The conclusion
I like the TV series and I love this book. It complements it nicely, showcasing the recipes and making good food easier.
I already have a shortlist of four more things I’ll be trying in the next couple of weeks- and can heartily recommend the book to people looking to branch out in what they’re making (while keeping it healthy, too).
