My Happy Life is a sweet, funny illustrated chapter book about a young girl with a lot of optimism—even if sometimes life makes it hard to be happy.
I’m liking
This book is a lovely introduction to longer stories and my 3 and a half year old just adores it. The book is written in very short chapters (sometimes just a few sentences) and is illustrated with simple but engaging sketches. The book deals with some of the hard things that can happen to children like having a friend move away and it touches lightly on the complexities of life- Dani’s mum is dead and she finds some aspects of school tough…
The conclusion
This book is great for children who are developing longer attention spans for stories but would also be lovely for early readers. It’s a sweet tale with Gecko Press’s usual attention to quality stories and beautiful pictures.
