Bright and beautiful, Chelsea Winter is back with her second cook book, Everyday Delicious, not that long after her first (At My Table) was released. One doesn’t earn almost 200,000 Facebook fans if one is unpopular, so I’m thinking Chelsea’s onto a winner with her style of food.
I’m liking
I think Chelsea’s first book has really grown on me over time. I would describe it as ‘modern-homely’, and I think the style of Everyday Delicious is definitely comparable. The simplicity of Chelsea’s food makes it so readily cook-able! You can leaf through her books and always find something that takes your fancy and is made with easily accessed ingredients. The focus of Everyday Delicious is simpler than her first book, covering just breakfast, small and main meals, and some sweets. She puts a twist on the trad, like adding mint leaves to peppermint slice. It’s fun but something anyone can manage.
I’ve made a few things and have decided I really like this book. The gluten free chocolate cheesecake is an absolute winner; if you’ve got GF folk in your house for a celebration then access this recipe! No one in our house is GF, yet we really loved this cheesecake. The Good Energy Slice is also GF, and recommended for new mums. It’s perfect for this cause, I can testify that breastfeeding mums everywhere should stock up on this hearty, nutty slice.
The mains recipes focus a lot on the everyday affordable meats, with a few speciality treat meals that you can try when you want to splash out a bit more. A decent bolognese recipe and a beautiful looking gravy on sausages and mash are two to try, along with pie, meatloaf, burgers… yummo. There’s a smattering of vegetarian recipes but I don’t really recommend the book for vegetarians as they’re few and far between really.
The conclusion
I like the slightly lower price tag on this book than on her previous title. I’m in little doubt that this second book will be just as big of a success as her first, and it will be found under Christmas trees everywhere this year! A hit.
Everyday Delicious is published by Random House and has a RRP of $49.99
