Print our Secondary School First Day Checklist to help getting ready for the first day of school.

Here’s a generic checklist of items your child will need when he or she attends Secondary School.

Broad brimmed hat
Sunglasses and case (optional)
School clothes (uniform or mufti) including:
  • t-shirt that covers shoulders
  • shorts or skirt that covers thighs
  • summer sandals (sturdy with straps)
  • sweatshirt for cool days
  • PE Uniform specified by school
  • PE Shoes may also be necessary
Note: Covered in shoes – if your teenage takes subjects such as workshop technology, OSH requires them to wear covered in shoes
Equipment
School bag (back pack)
Lunch box
Drink bottle
Note: There could be any number of other equipment requirements based on what subjects your teenager has chosen to take. The school will have lists of requirements that are subject specific.
Stationery
Pencil case
Pencils, pens, rubber, ruler, pencil sharpener
Calculator, compass and protractor
Stationery (books and paper as specified by the school).There is often a choice from secondary level about what stationery your teenage prefers to use; whether he/she prefers books for notes or refills and ring binders.

Stationery requirements at this level are likely to include –

  • Art Folder
  • Ring binders
  • Refills
  • Home work books specified by the school
  • Stationery specific to subjects like accounting, statistics, graphic art.

The school will have lists of requirements that are subject specific.

Other
Sunscreen – roll on is easy
Is your child tidy and healthy? – do they need a visit to the doctor or the hairdresser / barber for a haircut
Notes: MAKE SURE EVERYTHING IS CLEARLY LABELLED
