If you’re looking for somewhere to stay in Auckland, you’ll first need to decide where in Auckland you’re planning on visiting- there’s not point in staying in South Auckland if you’re going to spend all of your time on the North Shore. You also need to think about your budget and there is a vast range of accommodation – right from very budget to very high end. Here are some suggestions of places around Auckland that are great for families.

BUDGET (UNDER $100 per night)

Ambury Camp Ground: Mangere Bridge- 

Run by the Auckland Regional Council this working farm has basic, flat camping with toilets and drinking water nearby. Bring your tent, campervan, caravan or light trailer but you are required to get a permit first. Booking is available up to six months in advance.

YHA: Auckland City, Cnr City Road and Liverpool St, Auckland City –

Located at the top of Queen Street, the Auckland City YHA has a range of accommodation options for families. Twin rooms or four bedrooms are available or alternatively there are family rooms which have one double bed and one bunk, with baby cots available (please ask when booking).  Facilities include kitchen, highchair, laundry, towel hire, library, linen included, dvds, roof-top garden, BBQ, luggage storage and close proximity to airport bus stop, with airport transfers also arranged.

Avondale Motor Park: 48 Bollard Avenue, Avondale, Auckland, New Zealand

This motor park is situated in park-like surroundings just 10 km from Auckland City. The bus stop and train station are minutes away and the motor park is close to two large shopping malls, a supermarket and several family friendly restaurants. The children’s playground has a trampoline and flying fox . There is a television in the flats and tourist cabins. Linen is not supplied but can be hired.

Takapuna Beach Holiday Park: 22 The Promenade, Takapuna, North Shore, New Zealand

This holiday park is located on Takapuna Beach and has a range of accommodation options including waterfront tent sites, family cabins, onsite family caravans and motel units. It is also central to supermarkets, restaurants, theatres and great shopping

MID – RANGE ($100 – $200 per night)

Quality Inn Westend: 465 Great North Road, Grey Lynn, Auckland

This family friendly hotel is well positioned to many of the Auckland attractions. Double rooms are available as well as family rooms with a separate bedroom or family apartments with kitchen facilities. The restaurant also has a designated children’s menu. Other great facilities include a heated indoor pool, gym, spa, and a selection of family  DVDs , SKY TV, children’s play area and picnic area.

Novotel (Ellerslie)  5.46 km from the city centre

The Novotel is dedicated to looking after the needs of families. Complimentary parking, safe play areas and a well balanced menu at the restaurant are just some of the things they have on offer. Current promotions include late check outs in the weekends, free accommodation and breakfast for two children. Second rooms are also available at half the price of your own room.

Jet Park Hotel (Airport)

Jet Park Airport Hotel is now offering tailor-made family suites that caters for everyone in the family. Facilities include an indoor playground, library, tepid swimming pool that will leave you all feeling refreshed. Close to Rainbow’s End, Butterfly Creek, Ambury Park Farm, your family will just love this stay. Situated just 5 minutes’ drive from Auckland Airport there no need to rush off to get the family to the Airport on time if flying out – the dedicated Airport shuttle will pick you up free of charge.

LUXURY (Over $200 a night)

Scenic Hotel Auckland: Cnr Airedale & Queen St, Auckland City
