When it comes to eating out, Auckland has everything imaginable. From cheap and cheerful right through to fine cuisine, you’re sure to be able to find something that tickles your fancy. All of the cafes and restaurants in this list are ‘family friendly’ so you can be sure that your kids will be welcome.

Cafes

Kohu Rd café: Amazing coffee and incredible ice-cream. A caravan is also available for children to play in. 44 Portage Road, New Lynn

Café Windsor – (542 East Coast Rd, Mairangi Bay) Attached to Windsor Park Baptist church. This is a spacious café with a fenced playground attached. There is also an indoor play area with plenty of parking. A great café designed with the family in mind.  Open Monday – Saturday, 9-2:30.

The Luscious Food Store – (547 Te Atatu Road,  Te Atatu Peninsula) Excellent coffee, sandpit and large area for children to play.  Chalkboards and toys.

Parenting Place, Greenlane . (300 Great South Road, Greenlane) Great food,  couches to relax, space for the buggies and an indoor play area. A good place to feel encouraged with parenting workshops a well resourced book shop.

Restaurants

Monsoon Poon  (Cnr Lower Hobson and Custom Street West)

Monsoon Poon offers choices from exotic places such as India, South China, Vietnam and Indonesia.  This family friendly restaurant offers smaller meals for the children such as chicken satay, kaora veges and fried rice. A children’s menu is also available which includes drink and desert and comes with  colouring in and activities to entertain them while you wait. High chairs available. Great food and wine for the parents as well

The Lone Star Café Location335 – 337 Lake Road, Takapuna

Colouring in sheets and highchairs are provided in this family friendly restaurant which has beautiful views over the Hauraki Gulf. The children’s menu features a range of options such as wraps, burgers and mini drum sticks. The first drink and ice cream dessert is free.

Dutch Delight (20-24 Greenhithe Rd, Greenhithe)

This spacious Dutch restaurant is bound to appeal to everyone. The menu caters for the whole family with gluten free and dairy free pancakes also available. There is also a kid’s room available and a garden to explore.

WAGAMAMA – ( Sylvia Park Shopping Centre, 286 Mount Wellington Highway)

Wagamama serves pan-Asian food in the style of a modern Japanese Ramen bar. Children eat free on Saturday and Sunday between 12-5pm. (Just check ahead of time to ensure this promotion is still running). A dedicated children’s menu with high chairs are also available. Fast service.  Colouring work book and crayons are also provided.

Try ‘Tulip Cafe’ next time you are in Mt Roskill area- it is on 8 Carr Road. They have a selection of toys in a play pen which kept me little one happy for over half an hour. Great coffee and cake, plus the rest of the wide selection of food looked delicious.
